Growing Kindness at Home
A Faith-Based Family Activity
If you’re looking for a simple, meaningful faith-based family activity, this one is for you.
At Rooted and Gather here in the Asheville area, we believe some of the most powerful spiritual growth happens at home — around kitchen tables, in living rooms, and in the everyday rhythms of family life. “Growing Kindness at Home” is a simple Christian family practice designed to help parents and children slow down, speak encouragement, and recognize how God is growing good fruit in one another.
This easy activity works beautifully for:
Christian families in Asheville and WNC
Homeschool families
Church small groups
Lent or Easter preparation at home
Parents wanting intentional, faith-centered connection
What you need:
No complicated prep. No special supplies. Just paper, markers, and a little intentional time together.
What to do:
Each family member writes kind words, draws pictures, or names a Fruit of the Spirit they see in someone else several times throughout the week, once a week, whatever fits your schedule, You print photos you take and write on them. You can gather these on a poster board or put them in a blessing jar.
(You’re creating more than a craft — you’re cultivating identity, encouragement, and Christ-centered conversation together.)
Throughout the Lenten season, this can be a gentle way to prepare your hearts for Easter — returning to love, patience, kindness, and the steady growth God works in each of us.
By the end of the month, you’ll have a keepsake filled with affirmation, shared memories, and reminders of how deeply loved your family truly is.
